Date bungle for Fairfield Council meeting

20 Nov, 2009 03:38 PM
Cabramatta resident Charles Gream planned to attend this month's council meeting - but he was a week too late.

Fairfield Council held their November meeting last week but the council's website said it would be held the following Tuesday.

Mr Gream has sent a letter to the Fairfield Council about the inaccuracy and said this was the third time he had contacted them about the website.

He said that Strathfield and Parramatta Council's appeared to have no problems keeping their

website up to date.

``I have raised the matter of inaccuracies with this part and other parts of the site more than once.

I do not know what I have to do to get something done about it,'' Mr Gream said.

``It is important for me to go to the council meetings and I am tired of the quality of the information

on the website.

``There is obviously a communications problem and it needs to be addressed,'' he said.

In a letter to Mr Gream, Fairfield Council manager Alan Young apologised and said staff members would ensure better checks and changes were made to the website in the future.

Mr Gream said he will continue to observe the council website closely.

``There is nothing I can do apart from waiting and seeing what happens.''

How hard is it to bring up to date information to the website. Obviously someone is responsible for the lack of dutie that is required by the council staff. They can't get it right! No professionalism only disappointment again. Us viewers rely on your information and a responsibility must be in order so that we, as viewers are also up to date with the latest. Another disappointment from our council nothing surprises me.....

For an organisation with a turnover of over $100 million Fairfield City Council certainly is in disarray. Fairfield City Council is in breach of the Local Government Act 1993. Under sections 9. (1) and (5), a Council must notify the public of its meetings even if its in electronic form. What is our highly paid City Manager doing? He and our Mayor/MP Nick Lalich are to be held responsible for this abuse of the law. 9 Public notice of meetings (1) A council must give notice to the public of the times and places of its meetings and meetings of those of its committees of which all the members are councillors. 5) A notice given under this section or a copy of an agenda or of a business paper made available under this section may in addition be given or made available in electronic form.
