Call for Fairfield mayor to donate salary

Call for Fairfield mayor to donate salary

12 Jun, 2009 02:05 PM
Australian Business Party president Joseph Adams has challenged Fairfield Mayor Nick Lalich to take the lead from Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and donate his mayoral salary to charity.

Mr Adams said Ms Moore has done the "decent thing" by donating her mayoral salary, as she is also paid a salary for being a State MP like Mr Lalich.

"Clover Moore certainly kept her promise and established The Lord's Mayor Trust into which every mayoral red cent makes its way," Mr Adams said.

"Unlike his colleague in Sydney, [Mr Lalich] has decided to keep both mayoral fees and State MP salary too."

Do you think Nick Lalich should donate one or part of his salaries to charity?

Given that Mr Lalich is doing such a poor job in both areas, the real issue is whether or not he should continue holding down two jobs. I think that the people of Fairfield and Cabramatta deserve better than this. His antics this year have been purely farcical. Rewarding poor performance in so many different ways to someone in public office is just wrong. Mr Lalich needs to step aside from at least one of these roles, and try and lift his game. If he wont step away, then he needs to be removed - by his party or by the people. If his ego dictates that he remain as MP and Mayor, then the right thing for him to do would be donate one of the salaries to charity.

We think this is less about the salary and more a part of a continuing campaign by the local Conservative alliance to undermine the Mayor. When former Clr Thang Ngo moved last year for Council to not deliver payrises to Councillors as a sign of solidarity with those doing it tough in the area he was howled-down by the ALP, not supported by the Liberals, and Joseph Adams came out and said that the Councillors “work hard and deserve a payrise”. Mr Adams is not consistent – except where it comes to his obsession with attacking the Mayor . The Conservatives will of course accuse us of siding with Labor, but the reality is that we take the ALP to task far more on real issues

Dear Mr Cashman, You are right. Councillors do deserve a payrise, but not the Mayor. In comparison, the Mayor earns alot more than Councillors and I think that all Councillors in the State of NSW deserve to be paid more. I don't retract a single word, and yes I am consistent. Please do not confuse the issues at hand Mr Cashman. I am calling on Mr Lalich to foreclose his Mayoral fee, this has nothing to do with other Councillors having a Pay Rise. This is a real issue, and any saving made by the Council will benefit the community as a whole.

With welfare service disapearing from the Fairfield LGA at an alarming rate it is dissapointing that the Mayor of this area gets richer and his supporters who voted him in get less and less support services during a time of extreme hardship Mr Mayor it is up to you make sure that your local area is fully supported by services to improve the lives of residents and to ensure that Fairfield does not become a hotspot of poverty and need. Your job is to not only improve the surroundings, infastructure of our LGA but also take care of its residents not become the richest career politician in NSW Give some of you 'rewards' back to your community and start working for them for a change

All the ones who are critical of Nick Lalich for grabbing as much as he can get now should consider this.. there is only a limited time left before he has to rely on his super and savings to fund his lifestyle, meaning he needs to make as much as he can NOW. There is little room and time for charity.

Mr Lambert is partially correct, however I would like to ask anyone reading this and thinking poorly of Cr Lalich to put themselves in his shoes and honestly say they too would do things differently. Lets be honest, he is only doing what most of us would do.

Well Mr Lalich you have proven to us all, that you truely can not do both jobs efficiently and correctly. While your making the money you've always wanted. I can't imagine you giving your wages to charity as a good deed of yourself, since you have become as a politician and a citizen I truely don't believe you could committ to the kindness and compassion of yourself. When you got elected all you had in mind was money not the future of the people. Well now you face the consequences that money provides you with, . Good luck.....
