Cabra and Fairfield - Sydney's most vibrant suburbs?

20 Oct, 2009 06:56 PM
FAIRFIELD and Cabramatta have been described as two of the most vibrant suburbs in Sydney by award-winning food author and TV presenter Maeve O'Meara.

Ms O'Meara she said that one of the unique qualities of the area is that foods that are often sourced or made by small family businesses who ``want to make something authentic and delicious''.

``You can find some of the best foods in this part of Sydney that are unlike anything else, especially in Fairfield,'' she said.

Ms O'Meara's passion for food and interest in sharing lesser-known cuisines has seen her develop the popular and successful Gourmet Safaris, where people tour Sydney suburbs to get a taste of the action.

She said the food tours she holds in Cabramatta ``give a really lovely and delicious introduction'' to a part of Sydney that people may not discover by themselves.

The Vietnamese Walking Tour in Cabramatta is held monthly and Ms O'Meara describes it as a day trip to Asia with great places to eat and shop.

``I think it's one of the most exciting parts of Sydney and it's got fresh fruits and veggies that you don't find anywhere else,'' she said.

Peter Nguyen, who guides the Cabramatta tours, said the culture and culinary experiences give a taste of Asia.

``People can face the stereotype of Cabramatta through a common thread food ties it all back,'' he said.

``People just fall in love with the vibrancy of these suburbs,'' Ms O'Meara said.

Although, we have many cultures in both in these suburbs. They both invite the city with many different multicultural foods. Most which are unusual and interesting. Great to see in our city. Something different, and perhaps unique. We are a lucky country to have this opportunity and choice. More scope should be enhanced with both these suburbs and to be introduced to other suburbs which don't know of us. Not only within our community. We already know we exist. Perhaps an inviting carnival or entertainment will encourage outsiders to come and visit our place. More intense focus by our Council and Mayor Mr Lalich if anyone could show an impact and help us improve our city better, it would be from these people first, who have the power and support. The council have a strong impact and can make the changes happen.

Giulietta, what about the Cabramatta Moon festival, 70000 reported visitors last month, what about the Chinese New Year celebrations 40000 visitors attend, what about the chili festival, the flower festival etc etc etc. Cabramatta is a vibrant place because of the support of the community working together for the last 20 years including the Chamber of Commerce, business people, many community goups and the City Council. Its galling for someone to cry critizism when they actually do not know what they are talking about. Wake up...Cabramatta is a great alive place !!

Cabramatta and Fairfield have been awarded this despite Fairfield City Council weighing them down not because of Fairfield City Council lifting them up.

Hey Fairfieldboy...... Cabramatta CBD looks modern, clean, upbeat and seems to receive a lot of attention. With your attitude....stay away from Cabramatta ....... we don't need help like yours.
