Arts community seen as vibrant

7/05/2008 10:00:00 AM

MORE than $100,000 in State Government arts funding is flowing into Fairfield, which was lauded this week for having a ``vibrant arts community''.

Fairfield MP Joe Tripodi applauded local projects during a visit to the Powerhouse Youth Theatre.

``The region boasts flagship cultural organisations that now feature as major players in the state, national and international cultural landscape,'' Mr Tripodi said.

``The Iemma Government is currently providing $50,000 for Fairfield Council's Museum and Gallery and $52,000 towards annual operations of the Powerhouse Youth Theatre.

``A grant of $60,000 has previously been funded towards the refurbishment of the School of Arts for the relocation of the Powerhouse Youth Theatre.''

NSW Arts Minister Bob Debus said strong results had come from the Strategy for the Arts in Western Sydney, launched in 1999.

``The historical imbalances between the west and `the rest' have been redressed and thanks should go to local councils across western Sydney who have been major partners in developing arts programs for our region,'' Mr Debus said.
